MD in Barbados: Pre-Departure Ceremony Organized in India For 2019 Batch of Victoria University of Barbados

For students from India, who are coming to Barbados to join the Medical Program of Victoria University for MD in Barbados, the first session of the Pre-Departure Briefing Ceremony was organized in India on October 23, 2019, at the University's regional office in the city of Noida, India.

In the ceremony, Captain A.L. Narayan (Navy Retd.), Registrar of Victoria University of Barbados, Student Counselors, and students, who are going to study medicine in Barbados, —along with their family members— from various cities of India including Delhi, Bengaluru, Lucknow, and Jalandhar were present.

During the ceremony, Captain Narayan apprised the students and their guardians about the travel requirements, the culture of Barbados, and the process to follow after arrival in Barbados.

The students were also apprised a bit about the course curriculum of the program for medical education in Barbados.

In the ceremony, to visually explain the travel route and brief the students about the program for MD in Barbados (equivalent to MD) as well as the new country, all students were given a presentation by Ms. Shruti Koul, Deputy Head of Operations at the University.

To deal with individual queries of the students, an interactive session was also organized where counselors and Captain Narayan interacted with the students on a one-to-one basis and satisfactorily responded to the queries of the students.

Following the conclusion of the presentation and interactive session, the ceremony was graced by Admiral Rabinder "Robin" Kumar Dhowan, Former Chief, Naval Staff, Indian Navy, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, and Alumnus, National Defence Academy.

On occasion, Admiral encouraged the students with his words full of inspiration, wisdom, and positivity. Admiral told the students that while the medical pilgrimage they are going to embark on is not easy, but it's worth all the efforts. On occasion, Admiral asked the students to work hard and smart and be assured that with Commitment, Compassion, Courage, Credibility, and Integrity, they will become a competent and caring doctor.

It was a rare opportunity for the young medical aspirants to meet a person of his stature and learn from the wisdom of the Admiral. We are sure that our students will put the principles apprised by the Admiral into practice during, as well as after successful completion, of their MD Program.

The ceremony was organized to make the students and parents familiar with the entire process of departure and answer individual queries and concerns of the participants. During the ceremony, all the students took a moment to capture the special moment with those who helped them in their medical journey so far and who will be continuing to support them in their home country as well as in Barbados, i.e., their family members, and the members of the University.

Pre-Departure Ceremony marked an special occasion, especially for the students, who saw themselves getting one step closer to their dream of becoming a doctor as the time was getting closer for their departure to Barbados, where they will study medicine for 5 years at the University's campus in the Bridgetown City and step out as a qualified doctor after completion of MD in Barbados.
